Premier David Makhura of Gauteng will make his State of the Province Address (Sopa) at Johannesburg’s Brixton Multipurpose Centre on Monday morning.

The address is themed “continuing our commitment to the people of Gauteng.”

It is anticipated to highlight prior accomplishments while also laying out a strategy for the duration of the current term.

The Democratic Alliance (DA), on the other hand, has charged Makhura with making hollow promises throughout his two tenure as Gauteng premier.

All eyes are on Makhura as he delivers his tenth Sopa in an administration beset by corruption charges, the fallout from the July riots, and the devastation caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.

Makhura is scheduled to address a range of concerns, including infrastructure, the province’s weak public healthcare system, crime, and plans for the province’s economic revival.

Meanwhile, the premier may have some convincing to do following Democratic Alliance leader Solly Msimang’s charge that he is unable to govern.

Msimang presented the opposition’s alternate Sopa last week, in which he claimed Makhura had failed to keep commitments about e-tolls and the battle against corruption, among other things, and that locals were tired of broken promises.
