COSATU is Scheduled to Discuss the Report of the Section 89 Panel on Phala Phala

Cosatu announced that it would meet on Monday to go over the findings on Phala Phala from the Section 89 independent panel.

The African National Congress (ANC) has been urged by the trade union federation to take the interests of the nation into account while responding to the report that was made public last week.

As a result of his delay to notify the theft of foreign currency from his Phala Phala property in 2020, the panel has determined that President Cyril Ramaphosa may have a case to answer.

Solly Phetoe, a Cosatu representative, made the call during the weekend’s 40th anniversary celebration of the National Union of Mineworkers in Polokwane.

“Although our stance has not yet been finalized, I want to confirm that Cosatu’s national office bearers will be meeting today while we are still reviewing the report. As we previously stated, we are reviewing the information and will make a formal announcement to the public.”

Phetoe has also declined to participate in any discussions about the report’s merits.

He has emphasized again the need for the ruling party to take into account the current problems affecting the nation.

“When addressing this issue, the ANC leadership needs to take into account the difficulties South Africa is currently experiencing. You’ll remember that just after the report, we noticed that the rand was starting to lose value.”
