Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen claimed at the weekend that Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema had resurrected the demon of racism, division, and violence with his chanting of “Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer.”
On Saturday, the EFF’s commander-in-chief led the party’s followers in struggle songs and chants at a packed FNB Stadium in Soweto.
This follows the Equality Court judgement in the High Court that the cry did not constitute hate speech.
According to Steenhuisen, a political leader and member of parliament inciting mass murder and civil war is not normal.
The DA leader has stated that his party will pursue charges against Malema at the United Nations Human Rights Council in response to his latest murder chants.
He also urged all political parties and civil society organisations, as well as President Cyril Ramaphosa, to condemn Malema’s remarks.
“If President Ramaphosa fails to condemn Malema and his comments about farmers and other segments of our society, it can only mean that he is too cowardly to uphold the constitution and defend all South Africans.”
