Concerns are escalating in KwaZulu-Natal as the anticipation of thunderstorms and additional rainfall looms. Ongoing search and rescue efforts aim to locate at least five individuals who were swept away during flash floods.

Widespread damage to buildings, roads, and bridges has been reported across the province due to adverse weather conditions. The KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Department expressed apprehension regarding the forecast of more inclement weather.

Sboniso Mngadi, the department spokesperson, stated, “It is very concerning and worrying that there is more rain expected in the province, even tomorrow. We’ve just received a warning from the SA Weather Service about a level two severe thunderstorm expected in the province tomorrow. This comes as we are still assessing the damage caused by the New Year’s Eve disaster.”

Mngadi further noted that residents in the province persist in ignoring weather warnings.
