U.S. Could Withdraw from Ukraine Peace Talks Soon if No Deal in Sight, Rubio Warns

The United States is prepared to abandon its efforts to mediate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine within days if no clear progress is made, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday.

Speaking in Paris after discussions with European and Ukrainian officials, Rubio emphasized the urgency of the situation. “We’re not going to drag this out for weeks or months. We need to figure out, and I mean in just a few days, whether there’s a realistic path forward in the near future,” he stated.

“If it turns out the sides are too far apart to make this work, then I believe the president is ready to step away from the process entirely,” Rubio added.

According to several European diplomatic sources, Rubio’s remarks reflect mounting frustration in Washington over Moscow’s resistance to compromise, despite some apparent movement in recent conversations between the U.S. and Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov acknowledged that some progress had been made, but noted that discussions with the U.S. have been challenging. He reaffirmed Russia’s willingness to engage in dialogue, while stressing the importance of safeguarding its own national interests.
