Globally, it ranks 74th on the Network Readiness Index (behind Kenya) and 77th on the AI Readiness Index (trailing Mauritius and Egypt), influencing government strategies and investment flows.
 
However, South African businesses still struggle to penetrate global markets as effectively as foreign firms have entered South Africa, raising questions about whether local entrepreneurs are fully leveraging available tools or prioritizing domestic economic development.
