Movistar, Vodafone, Orange, and other top providers down nationwide, leaving users without signal or data

MADRID — A massive mobile network outage has disrupted services across Spain, affecting major telecom providers including Movistar, Vodafone, Orange, O2, and Digimobil, with millions of users unable to make calls, send texts, or access mobile data.

The outage began around 5:00 a.m. local time, according to DownDetector, a website that monitors real-time user-reported network issues. The disruption has spread rapidly across the country, impacting Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Malaga, Murcia, and Bilbao, among other cities.

Customers have flooded social media with complaints of “total blackout,” “no signal,” and “internet down.”

The cause of the outage is not yet confirmed, and none of the major telecom providers have issued an official explanation or estimated time for resolution. Emergency services have not reported any disruption to critical communications, but users are advised to use Wi-Fi calling or landlines where possible.

The blackout comes amid growing concerns about the resilience of digital infrastructure in Europe, where extreme weather, cyberattacks, and aging systems have all been cited as possible threats to network stability.

Authorities have not ruled out a cybersecurity incident, but investigations are ongoing.
