Robert Fico Slams Baltic States
Over Moscow Flight Ban
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said
Lithuania and Latvia have denied overflight clearance for his trip to Moscow for Victory Day on May 9. Fico criticised the move, saying EU states were blocking a fellow member’s travel, but vowed to find an alternative route. The restrictions reflect broader European Union airspace measures imposed after the Ukraine conflict escalation.
The Baltic states have enforced strict controls on politically sensitive flights, citing sanctions policy.
The dispute also highlights ongoing tensions over differing interpretations of World War Il and the Soviet Union’s historical role in the region.
