U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the
White House Correspondents’ Dinner incident, describing the armed intruder as “a very sick person”.
Trump explained that he, the First Lady, and senior officials were quickly escorted off stage after gunfire broke out near the metal detectors. A Secret Service officer was shot at close range but survived due to protective gear, and no guests were harmed.
The suspect, Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California, was immediately apprehended, and authorities are searching for his apartment. Trump praised the heroic response of law enforcement, noted the unity and love among attendees, and emphasized the need for new security measures to prevent similar attacks.
