U.S. President DONALD TRUMP and South Korean President LEE JAE MYUNG held talks on the sidelines of the UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY on Tuesday, discussing bilateral strategic projects and other pending issues.
The 30-minute meeting comes as Washington increases pressure on Seoul over possible MILITARY DEPLOYMENT TO HELP SECURE NAVIGATION THROUGH THE STRAIT OF HORMUZ.
Lee has ruled out deploying combat troops, saying South Korea would not send military personnel in a way that could draw the country into an OVERSEAS CONFLICT.
The two leaders welcomed “SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS” in discussions on strategic investment projects, following South Korea’s briefing on implementation plans under the countries’ $350 BILLION INVESTMENT PACKAGE.
The meeting also comes amid ongoing concerns surrounding NORTH KOREA.
AS WASHINGTON AND SEOUL NAVIGATE SECURITY, INVESTMENT AND REGIONAL TENSIONS, WHERE DOES THIS PARTNERSHIP GO NEXT?
