The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) says it has temporarily withdrawn from Mekelle, Ethiopia’s northern regional capital, following an advance by federal forces and allied fighters.
The announcement came after Ethiopian government forces and pro-government fighters reportedly recaptured Mekelle’s main airport and moved into the city centre.
Humanitarian sources and residents cited by international news agencies said GOVERNMENT FORCES NOW CONTROL MEKELLE, while the TPLF says it will operate from elsewhere.
