Saudi Arabia says Houthi missiles and drones have struck Abha International Airport and King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, killing three people and injuring 36 as fighting between Yemen’s Houthi forces and the Saudi-led coalition intensifies.
The attacks, reported on October 6 and 7, killed three foreign nationals two women, one Moroccan and one Algerian, at Abha, and a Sudanese man in Riyadh.
The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation confirmed the casualties and damage to airport facilities.
The Houthis have claimed responsibility, saying ballistic missiles and drones were used against the airports and other targets. The group has also warned airlines to avoid Saudi airspace.
But the response from the Saudi-led coalition has been swift.
The coalition says it launched a series of strikes targeting 82 Houthi military positions across several provinces, including missile storage facilities, command centres and weapons depots.
Its spokesman warned that attacks targeting civilian infrastructure “would not go unpunished.”
With airports now caught in the crossfire, the latest escalation marks another dangerous turn in the conflict with civilian lives, air travel and critical infrastructure increasingly exposed to the violence.
Three dead. 36 injured. Airports hit. And both sides are escalating.
