Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has criticised French President Emmanuel Macron, claiming he warned him three years ago that Hamas would reach the streets of Paris if it was not stopped in the Middle East.

Netanyahu said he told Macron on 7 October 2023, the day of the Hamas attacks on Israel, that diplomacy would not work.

His remarks come after around 500,000 people reportedly took to the streets across France over rising living costs, fuel prices and poor school conditions. Demonstrations escalated into looting, arson and clashes with police in several cities.

More than 2,400 people were arrested, nearly 1,000 officers were injured, and partial curfews were imposed in parts of Paris and other cities.
