Russia Claims To Have Developed ‘First’ Coronavirus Vaccine

Russia claims to have developed the world’s first Covid-19 vaccine. Sputnik V has been cleared for mass use in Russia. But how did Russia develop a vaccine in 3 months? Did it skip necessary steps? Is the vaccine safe?

• President Putin had earlier said that the “vaccine has a more specific effect, it forms stable anti-body and cell-mediated immune response” while adding that his own daughters were administered the vaccine.
• Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko said that clinical trials of the vaccine involving several thousand participants would continue.
• Russian authorities said they would begin mass production in September.
• After President Putin announced that Russia had launched the world’s first coronavirus vaccine, Germany’s health ministry said that “there is no known data on the quality, efficacy and safety of the Russian vaccine.”
