Babalwa Ngonyama, the chair of the University of Cape Town council, has resigned.
A team of independent investigators was established by the council in the latter part of last year to look into university governance-related issues.
The investigation’s central question was whether professor Mamokgethi Phakeng, the university’s former vice chancellor, and Ngonyama lied before the administration and senate of the institution.
Ngonyama stated in a message to the media that she remained dedicated to the panel’s work and would provide full cooperation.
