The Spanish court declared on Wednesday that Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, a four-time Grand Slam singles champion, and her former husband, Josep Santacana, were guilty of fraud. The court determined that the couple, who divorced in 2019, concealed assets to evade substantial debts owed to the Banque de Luxembourg.

Arantxa Sánchez Vicario received a two-year prison sentence, but this was suspended due to her status as a first-time offender. The suspension is contingent upon her repaying the debts to the bank. Josep Santacana was handed a three-year-and-three-months prison sentence, and the couple is required to pay a fine of $7.1 million.

Despite her 12-week tenure as the No. 1 player, Sánchez Vicario, 52, won three French Open singles titles and a U.S. Open championship before retiring in 2002.
