South Africa’s former president Jacob Zuma spent his first night in jail this past week after handing himself over ahead of the midnight deadline. Zuma’s imprisonment follows a lengthy legal battle to avoid the Constitutional Court’s incarceration order. The country’s highest court sentenced Zuma to 15 months in jail for contempt after he failed to attend hearings of the State Capture Inquiry. Mzwanele Manyi, Jacob Zuma Foundation spokesperson, maintains the state capture commission has been unfair to Jacob Zuma.
