Busisiwe Mkhwebane, the suspended public protector, is supported by a five-person legal team throughout the parliamentary investigation into her eligibility for office. The team might run up to R130 000 in daily expenses for the taxpayer.
The inquiry is anticipated to wind up hearings in early August and complete its work by September, but it has already fallen behind schedule, largely because of how long it took for Mkhwebane’s senior lawyer, advocate Dali Mpofu, to cross-examine witnesses after the evidence was presented.
