Nissan plans to cease vehicle production at its Wuhan facility in China by March 31, 2026, according to two individuals familiar with the matter. This move follows a decline in production at the plant, which has a capacity of 300,000 vehicles and produces the Ariya electric vehicle and X-Trail SUV. The plant’s output has been impacted by intense competition from local Chinese automakers. Since its opening in 2022, the facility, which is leased from Dongfeng Motor, has only managed to produce around 10,000 units annually. The sources, who requested anonymity due to their lack of authorization to speak publicly, shared these details. Additionally, Nissan has projected a record net loss of between 700 billion yen and 750 billion yen ($4.87 billion to $5.22 billion) for the fiscal year ending March 31, largely due to impairment charges.
