President Cyril Ramaphosa is scheduled to be present at the Monday inauguration of Zimbabwe’s re-elected President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, in Harare.
Mnangagwa secured a second term in office following the country’s recent polls, which were surrounded by controversy. This included concerns about the voters’ roll, restrictions on opposition rallies, allegations of biased state media coverage, and instances of voter intimidation.
Despite the election-related controversies, the South African government extended its congratulations to Zimbabwe for conducting what it referred to as “harmonised elections.”
The Presidency has confirmed that Ramaphosa is set to be present at the inauguration of President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa today in Harare, which will be held at the National Stadium. Joining Ramaphosa will be Dr. Naledi Pandor, the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation. Other notable dignitaries expected to attend comprise François Xavier Kalinda, the President of the Senate from Rwanda, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa of Tanzania, and Nigerian Vice-President Kashim Shettima, among others.
