Following the conclusion of coalition negotiations in hung municipalities, the ANC’s national executive committee (NEC) will convene to consider a report. Pule Mabe, the party’s spokesperson, confirmed this. Mabe said in a statement that the party had finished talks with political parties that would form coalition partners in the hung municipalities. He described the process as a three-tiered one, with discussions involving all levels of leadership across the country. Other metros in Gauteng, Nelson Mandela Bay, and eThekwini require coalition partners in addition to KZN.
In those metros, no party received an outright majority. Parties are competing for positions in Joburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, and eThekwini. The ANC won outright in Mangaung and Buffalo City, while the DA took over the City of Cape Town.
