The search for missing individuals in Ladysmith after Christmas Eve flash floods was suspended on Thursday. The death toll rose to 12 as six more bodies were recovered. The search will expand from Friday, following the discovery of an adult female’s body several kilometers outside of town in the Klip River area. The town faced heavy rains on Christmas Eve, displacing dozens, with five people still missing.

The KwaZulu-Natal government has appealed to search and rescue teams nationwide for assistance in locating the remaining missing individuals. Siboniso Mngadi, spokesperson for KZN co-operative governance, stated that a request was made to the cabinet for extra resources to support the search efforts. Mngadi expressed hope for positive results by the weekend. Among the bodies found on Thursday were those of a father and son, Kenneth and Kale Malaton.
