Will President Cyril Ramaphosa Attend The Provincial Anc Meeting In Kzn?

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s attendance at the 9th ANC KwaZulu-Natal provincial congress this weekend in Durban is uncertain.

This is despite worries about how he will be treated in the region Jacob Zuma used to call home.

“He has no fear of visiting KZN. He does not consider KZN or any other region of the nation to be outside limits. ANC members in KZN are the same as ANC members elsewhere in the nation.

Therefore, he won’t have any cause to treat KZN any differently. According to a source close to the president, KZN needs to hear the ANC’s commitment and message of regeneration and unity.

The conference will be held from July 22 through July 24 at the Olive Convention Center.

Ramaphosa should attend the conference, according to University of KwaZulu-Natal political analyst Dr. Fikile Vilakazi, since he anticipates winning a second term.

“I also believe it is crucial to attend because of where the ANC is in its preparations for the national conference. We are aware that the organization is experiencing a leadership crisis and is in disarray, and the president himself must show that the issues swirling around him are not impeding him.

Ramaphosa must also demonstrate his commitment to the renewal effort.

“He is compelled to go there; he has no option. The RET (radical economic transformation) faction is quite powerful in the province of KZN and appears to be in control there. He shouldn’t be concerned about getting booed or being unwelcome.

“He appears to avoid KZN, where he worries about being jeered at or receiving negative feedback. He needs to demonstrate his power as the president of all the factions in order to reach the point where he may declare that he is ready to govern once more.

Although Jacob Zuma has a lot of popularity in the province, Ramaphosa needs to show that he is no longer the president. Keep in mind how he responded when the unions heckled him. He is the president, so that just goes with the job,” she remarked.

The meeting will be opened on Friday by the TG (treasurer-general), Paul Mashatile, and will be closed by the chairperson, according to provincial party spokeswoman Nhlakanipho Ntombela.

Ntombela said the gathering is “the culmination of a smooth and robust procedure in hundreds of branch general meetings which held their nominating processes” in a statement on Wednesday.

Ntombela stated that the province was preregistering delegates in each region.

The province is anticipated to describe its conference readiness on Thursday.

Ramaphosa will attend, according to a source close to him, but ANC national spokesperson Pule Mabe said he would need to confirm with the president’s office.

Sihle Zikalala, the conference’s current provincial chair, will compete for the hotly fought post.
