39th AU Summit – AU “Just Transition” Debate Sparks Concern

At the African Union Summit, questions are mounting over whether the so-called “just transition” is aligned with Africa’s development ambitions. As the continent pushes for resource beneficiation, accelerated industrialization, and greater investment in artificial intelligence, some leaders warn that externally driven climate frameworks could undermine those goals – particularly at a time when parts of Europe, including Germany, are grappling with signs of deindustrialization.

Our correspondent Hillary Panashe put that question directly to Chief Charumbira, the President of the Pan African Parliament asking whether the just transition risks being counterproductive to the African Union’s economic agenda.
