Dr. Anthony Fauci, a leading infectious disease researcher in the United States, stated on Wednesday that despite the risk of COVID-19, it is time for the country to return to normalcy.
Fauci said that governments in the United States are faced with difficult decisions in balancing the need to protect individuals from diseases with rising exhaustion from an epidemic that is now in its third year.
President Joe Biden’s senior medical adviser and a member of the White House COVID-19 Response Team, Anthony Fauci, remarked, “There is no ideal solution to this.”
As the Omicron surge in cases fades, U.S. health officials said they were formulating fresh COVID-19 recommendations on several elements of the virus response.
Several states, including New Jersey, New York, California, Connecticut, Delaware, and Oregon, announced that mask regulations for schools and other public places would be lifted in the following weeks.
“The fact that the world, and especially certain sections of the United States, are just up to here with COVID – they just really need to get their lives back,” he remarked.
“You don’t want to be rash and toss everything away, but you have to start moving in that direction.”
Despite the recent improvements, COVID deaths continue to be high, with over 2,200 Americans dying each day, the majority of whom are unvaccinated.
Fauci admitted that governments’ amended regulations may result in compromises and some avoidable illnesses, but he also warned that adhering too rigidly to stringent prevention strategies might be detrimental.
“Is the impact on mental health, is the impact on development of kids, is the impact on schools – is that balanced against trying to be totally pristine and protecting against infection? I don’t have the right answer to that,” he said.
