African nations need to demonstrate their economic superiority, according to Gwen Ramokgopa, treasurer general of the African National Congress (ANC).
During the gala dinner held on Tuesday night in Midrand to welcome BRICS dignitaries to the nation, Ramokgopa delivered the following remarks.
The 15th annual summit of the bloc begins on Tuesday, with South Africa serving as the host country.
The gathering of the five emerging economies is unprecedented since the COVID-19 pandemic’s onslaught.
Even though Africa is still facing a number of economic problems, such as unemployment and inequality, Ramokgopa thinks the continent has to dispel the idea that it is not doing well in the world.
“As our president, Cyril Ramaphosa, recently stated in Paris on behalf of developing countries, we do not have to enter BRICS as beggars, nor do we have to enter with nothing to offer. “We are entering BRICS for trade and mutual benefit,” he declared. Africa and South Africa together have a great deal to offer the world.”
In order for Africa to have a voice in global governance, Ramokgopa thinks the BRICS countries need to assist in reforming the current frameworks.
“It is time that the countries that were left behind pull up their socks and advance. It is time that the countries that have been left behind in poverty, in underdevelopment, in unemployment, like in our country, are now able to see a better future and be shoulder to shoulder with those that are ahead of them.”
