U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio led the start of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday. The talks come as the Israel-Hezbollah conflict is proving to be a hurdle in a wider ceasefire with Iran, which says any peace negotiations must include both Hezbollah and Lebanon. Both nations agreed to launch ongoing direct negotiations at a later date and venue. U.S. officials characterized the session as “productive”.
