Australia is signaling that its strategic alliance with the United States remains firmly on track, with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirming that AUKUS is moving “full steam ahead” following a lengthy call with President Donald Trump.
Beyond defence cooperation, Albanese also pressed for Australia to receive an exemption from Washington’s 12.5% tariffs, arguing that one of America’s closest allies deserves preferential treatment. The talks also touched on Iran and Australia’s expanding defence partnerships across the Pacific.
