In Annaba, Algeria the city closely linked to Saint Augustine of Hippo preparations are underway at the Basilica of Saint Augustine ahead of the visit of Pope Leo XIV next week.
The Pope will first arrive in Algiers, where he is expected to visit the Maqam Echahid Martyrs’ Monument, honoring those who died in the Algerian War of Independence, and hold talks with Abdelmadjid Tebboune, President of Algeria.
He will then travel to Annaba, where parishioners and clergy are eagerly preparing for the historic moment. The visit marks the first stop of the Pope’s Africa tour, which will also include Cameroon, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea throughout April.
