Canadian Defence Minister David McGuinty has confirmed multiple fatalities and injuries following a serious incident that triggered a major fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta.
The fire reportedly began in the base’s training area before spreading into surrounding rural areas amid strong, volatile winds. Emergency departments in Edmonton activated mass-casualty protocols as injured personnel were transported to regional hospitals.
While official casualty figures remain unconfirmed pending next-of-kin notifications, local sources and media reports have cited at least seven fatalities and dozens injured.
Authorities have yet to release a confirmed toll as emergency response efforts continue.
