A Flydubai flight travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv was forced into an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia after a violent incident involving two pilots in the cockpit.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said one pilot stabbed the other and appeared to attempt to crash the aircraft, which plunged more than 17,000 feet in a matter of minutes before passengers and crew intervened.
The Boeing 737 ultimately landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, with passengers and crew reported safe. Both pilots were injured and taken to hospital.
The circumstances surrounding the attack, including the motive, how the weapon entered the cockpit and whether the incident was an attempted hijacking or deliberate crash, remain under investigation. Flydubai has confirmed an altercation occurred and urged against premature speculation while authorities establish the facts.
