Hundreds Of Zim Shoppers Caught Using Illegal Crossings Into South Africa

Hundreds of traders from Zimbabwe were arrested after they were caught jumping a fence meters away from a Beit bridge border post in South Africa, as they tried to smuggle groceries back to Zimbabwe, where residents are facing an economic downturn and rampant hyperinflation. South African patrol guards had anticipated that area would be used for illegal crossings into the country to buy goods as soon as travel restrictions were lifted. Many Zimbabweans rely on goods from South Africa. Some traders go as far as risking the treacherous crocodile-infested Limpopo River, which divides the two countries to reach more affordably-priced South African stores.
