IGP Dissolves SARS After Widespread Protests

Protests broke out in Nigeria in recent days after a video circulated last week alleging to show members of the Nigeria’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit — known as SARS — fatally shooting a man in Delta state. The unit’s alleged heavy-handed methods have for years drawn condemnation from Nigerians, particularly the young, who say SARS officers regularly target, beat and extort them.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police Muhammed Adamu has announced the dissolution of Special Anti Robbery Squard (SARS). According to the IGP who made the announcement at a press briefing the disband order comes after three days of protest.
