El Salvador is conducting a historic mass trial involving nearly 500 alleged members of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) gang as part of its ongoing crackdown on violence. Prosecutors have collectively charged the group with over 47,000 crimes committed between 2012 and 2022, including an estimated 29,000 homicides. This “mega-trial” is the first of its kind to target the gang’s entire national command structure simultaneously.
