A tanker sailing off the north coast of Qatar has been attacked, with an unknown number of casualties reported by a British maritime security agency.
The vessel, sailing in the Gulf about 500km west of the Strait of Hormuz, reported being struck by “multiple projectiles,” according to the UK Maritime Trade Operations.
The attack comes as Iran declares it will close a route through the Strait of Hormuz being used to circumvent its blockade, while tanker attacks reach their highest weekly level since the Iran war began and oil prices climb above $100 a barrel.
