Senate Confirms Erica Schwartz As CDC Director

The U.S. Senate confirmed Dr. Erica Schwartz as director of the U.S. CDC. Schwartz, President Donald Trump’s third pick to run the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, was confirmed 51-44.

She will take command of a public health agency that has lost thousands of employees in the second Trump administration amid layoffs, resignations and leadership shakeups.

Dr. Schwartz steps in as the 22nd permanent CDC leader. The agency has lacked an official director for roughly a year following a period marked by political friction and low staff morale.
