South Africa’s ANC NEC met this weekend amid divisions in its ranks over the step-aside resolution which resulted in Ace Magashule being suspended as the party’s Secretary-General. The Committee removed Ace Magashule, the suspended Secretary-General, from a virtual meeting. ANC MP Bongani Bongo, who is also facing criminal charges, was also removed from the meeting. Magashule, who is appealing against his suspension, said that he remains in his position and would attend the meeting despite his suspension. The NEC meeting was also expected to discuss Magashule’s letter suspending ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa, which the party has declared null and void. Recordings from the NEC meeting have since leaked online.
