Transitional Government Nears Key Political Milestone

President Ahmed al-Sharaa Completes Formation of New Legislature

Ahmed al-Sharaa, president of Syria‘s transitional government, is expected to announce the final 70 members of the country’s new parliament, completing the formation of the post-Assad legislature.

Under Syria’s interim five year constitutional framework, the president appoints one third of the 210 seat parliament, while the remaining members are selected through an indirect process involving local electoral committees.

According to government officials, the latest appointments are intended to strengthen regional representation, increase the participation of women in the legislature, and promote broader national diversity.

The appointments also include additional parliamentary seats for Syria’s eastern regions following consultations with the Syrian Democratic Forces, the Kurdish led coalition that controls parts of northeastern Syria.

Officials say the completion of the new parliament marks an important step in the country’s political transition as the interim government continues implementing its constitutional roadmap.

The newly formed legislature is expected to play a central role in advancing legislation and supporting governance during Syria’s transitional period.
