The stage is set in Richards Bay, Kwazulu-Natal (KZN), where thousands of Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) supporters will gather for the party’s closing rally at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex on Sunday.

The IFP aims to maintain its hold on the uMhlathuze Local Municipality, which serves as the economic hub of northern KZN.

Thousands of supporters are being transported to the venue. With the municipality currently under IFP governance, the party is hopeful of retaining its power in this once-African National Congress (ANC) stronghold.

In 2021, the IFP successfully gained control of the municipality by forming an alliance with the Democratic Alliance (DA), displacing the ANC’s dominance over the fiercely contested region.

Party leader Velenkosini Hlabisa will energize his supporters ahead of the general elections.

This will mark the first election in which the IFP competes without party stalwart Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, following his passing last September.
