Cosatu, a trade union federation, has accused the ANC of collapsing state-owned businesses (SOEs) in order to privatize them.

Following their central executive committee meeting earlier in the week, Cosatu executives spoke to the media in their Johannesburg headquarters on Thursday.

Bheki Ntshalintshali, the ANC’s secretary-general, says there is an urgent need to bridge the gap between South Africans and the ruling party since many residents have lost faith in the governing party’s ability to lead reform.

“The reality is that the southern African state has been taken over by private interests, as President Ramaphosa’s declaration that the government does not produce jobs reveals.

According to Ntshalintshali, Cosatu believes the ANC government is aiming to privatize most SOEs by unbundling and cutting off funds to hasten their demise.

“The Post Office, Eskom, Denel, SAA, and Transnet are just a few of the state-owned enterprises (SOEs) that are being destroyed and collapsed in preparation for privatization.

Cosatu has described the government’s partnerships with the private sector at SOEs as “masked privatization,” and the federation has stated that it will not tolerate it.

According to Ntshalintshali, Cosatu believes the ANC government is aiming to privatize most SOEs by unbundling and cutting off funds to hasten their demise.
