The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) asserts it is not desperate to enter coalition governments just for the sake of it. The party emphasized that it is content to continue holding the government accountable from the opposition benches rather than align with parties that do not share its values.

With the Moonshot Pact effectively dead due to poor performances from most of the parties involved, the IFP is keeping its options open. The IFP remains one of the few established parties not severely affected by the emergence of Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party. With less than three percent of voting districts left to count, the IFP has already improved its performance compared to 2019.

Party president Velenkosini Hlabisa stated, “The IFP will make an informed decision in the best interests of the people of South Africa, whether in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, or nationally. We are not desperate to enter a coalition for the sake of it. We will definitely join a coalition that will benefit the people of South Africa.”

Hlabisa also urged the IEC to promptly address the disputes many parties have regarding the election results.
